It’s been a long, long time since I’ve been able to use my ‘nose’ and get this type of exercise SPOT brought me a very comfy bed, treats, and squeaky toys (I LOVE squeaky toys!), and I’m settling in nicely. Dr. Cramer gave me an exam, heart worm test, and vaccinations. Tomorrow, I overheard that a volunteer is going to take me for a nice long run, I can’t wait! I’m a smart, agile, athletic girl, and SPOT thinks I would do really well in agility training, cause I can use my brain and my natural athletic ability. Allie DAY ONE..

Today is the first day of the rest of Allie’s life! Thanks to all of SPOT’s family and friends, Allie is leaving the shelter this morning with her good friends Lisa & Nancy, volunteers that have worked with and loved Allie and networked her like crazy to get her out alive. Allie is on her way to Fire Mountain Vet for a complete physical exam, a change in diet with supplements, and a quiet place to decompress for a few days with the staff and vets – and we have a wonderful volunteer that is going to start running with Allie several times each week to help her drain some of her pent up energy. After 17 months in the shelter, Allie gets to learn what it’s like to be a dog! We can’t wait to start her rehab, she gets very anxious when it’s time for feeding cause all of the dogs at the shelter watched their food being prepared on the cart, and they couldn’t wait for it to arrive. This caused a lot of anxiety and fear for Allie, so we are starting with a food bowl that will not ‘clang’ and make noise to help desensitize her. She’s a very smart girl and eager to learn!!!

Help us release Allie from her prison!!

Meet Allie… she is a special girl. A beautiful black Lab mix with energy galore and all she needs is a little help from you.

Currently, Allie is in an Orange County shelter, but she has been there ‘in storage’ for 17 months. That is over 500 days and counting!!.. Within that time she hasn’t been looked at once by any potential adopters…not one. Allie’s approximate age is up for question, but they suspect she’s around 6-7 years old. Ally has never received any training, but like any Lab, she is full of excitement and eager to learn. Everyone who meets her loves her immediately! Our Allie is quite a dog…

Allie is in danger of being deported from her current shelter. That means she will no longer be on a “no kill” list. We want to take her out of her prison cell, find her a foster home and invest in the training she needs. She will be a one of a kind dog for some lucky family.

We had our trainer assess Allie. He rode with her on his bike for 30 minutes and Allie was just getting started! Is she excitable? Of course. She’s a Lab that’s been in prison for a year and a half! Our trainer had a simple assessment of her needs: Allie needs to learn how to be a dog! She isn’t aggressive at all with other dogs, just stiff and unsure. She has never learned how to play! Imagine your life if you had never played. Now imagine you are the most playful dog in the world. We know it won’t take long for her to learn and we have already decided to get her the kind of training that includes lots of play.
