Many of us first met Elaine in 2002 while she was volunteering at the Oceanside Humane Society, where she later became their Volunteer Coordinator. In 2010, when the San Diego Humane Society assumed operation of the shelter, Elaine recognized that her efforts could have an even greater impact outside the shelter system. Determined to save more animals and give them the chance they rightly deserved, she co-founded SPOT.
Elaine’s unwavering dedication, compassion, and resilience became the driving force behind an organization that has saved thousands of lives. She was a true visionary, a tireless advocate for animals, and an inspiring leader whose influence will be felt for generations to come.
Her passing leaves an enormous void in our hearts, but her legacy will live on through every animal rescued, every family formed, and every life touched by SPOT. We remain committed to continuing the mission she started and carrying forward her passion for saving animals.
To honor Elaine’s remarkable legacy, we are establishing the Elaine Godzak Resilience Fund. This special fund will support the animals who, like Elaine, embody resilience and determination—those who refuse to give up and may simply need a little more time, care, and patience to find their forever homes.
