15 Apr Kato needs a new home!
Kato is a very happy, young (approx. 2 years) male Bull Terrier/German Shepherd mix with lots of love and energy. He is perfectly house trained, smart and knows commands like sit, lay down and stay (for the most part on that last one). Kato is about 60 pounds. Kato is also stubborn and a bit mischievous and will find a way to steal a sock now and then or snuffle through a pocket looking for something. He is excellent on a leash and loves walks (he gets in about seven miles a week). Kato is crate trained and enjoys sleeping in his crate at night (around 8:30 he is ready to head upstairs and call it a night). We do not put him in his crate during the day. Kato does have issues with mouthiness, specifically jumping up and biting clothes. While he means no harm, he uses his mouth to guide you to something he wants. This may be ok, except he does have giant teeth. We have been training him over a year to correct this behavior – but he is still learning (remember, he is stubborn). The other thing that he will do occasionally is sometimes called ‘zoomies’ – where he will tear off and start running in large circles in the yard or house for any reason. He has bonded to his alpha owner and is a constant side companion (but he would prefer to be a lap dog).
Kato is not a doggo for the first time dog owner. He is a 50% Bull Terrier and there are specific things that we’ve learned over the past year about this breed that you will need to consider (like they are determined and extroverted). He is also not a good candidate to be around other pets or children. A perfect owner-candidate for Kato would be a single person who can provide the proper guidance and training to help Kato have the right parameters.
